Driver licence classes
The following table details the types of driver licence classes and experience requirements that you must meet before you can apply for each class of licence. To upgrade your licence to a higher class or remove a licence restriction, e.g. R-E to R, you must undertake a practical driving assessment.

Changes to driving assessments in regional areas
WA Police has made a decision to withdraw from the delivery of driver licence assessment in regional and rural areas.
As a consequence, Licensing Services will assume responsibility for driver licence assessment in regional and rural areas.

- C (Car) licence for at least two years; or
- LR or MR licence for at least one year.

Heavy Combination |
Must have held:
- C (Car) licence for at least three years and
- MR or HR licence for at least one year.

- C (Car) licence for at least three years; and
