Seatrek Program
A Seatrek is an expedition involving five metre sailing boats equipped to sail along our spectacular coastline. The program fulfils the requirements of the expedition in the WA Curriculum Council's Outdoor Education Course. A fleet of six fully self-contained boats accompanied by a support vessel, cater for 24 students and two staff members.
These expeditions may be as simple as a one day sail up the Swan River or as complex as an eight day expedition through Shark Bay or around the coastal areas between Fremantle and Mandurah.
An extensive training program is required by students to complete a Seatrek including sail training, radio procedure, navigation and advanced boat handling. Great emphasis is placed on planning and preparation as well as personal safety. The Recreational Skipper's Ticket is compulsory for those students wishing to complete a Seatrek.
The Seatrek provides students with a unique opportunity to challenge them and apply the marine safety skills they have learnt. As a result the marine safety skills are re-enforced and enhanced for life. Seatrek give teachers and students practical voyage planning skills and experience in the hard and soft skills introduced during the Recreational Skipper's Ticket. Seatrek also meets many aspects of the WA Curriculum Council's Outdoor Education Package, contact the boatshed staff for further information.

Primary and Secondary School Packages
The Boatshed has developed many school resources and is currently developing a primary school and a secondary school marine safety pack. The packs will be produced to support teachers in delivering marine safety messages in school programs.
The primary pack will provide a marine safety educational package aimed at middle childhood (years 3, 4 and 5) students in WA primary schools. It is envisaged that this program will introduce marine safety, specifically safe use of boats and what children should demonstrate to ensure their own safety as well as safety of others whilst boating.
The Boatshed also offers Marine Safety Days to primary school groups. These days are designed to meet the requirements of the individual school, but essentially see the students being involved in an intensive day of marine safety education. Activities can include, rowing, sailing canoeing, survival swimming, snorkelling and swamping/capsizing a small power boat.
The secondary pack will support the current Maritime Package from the WA Curriculum Council being presented in secondary schools state-wide as well as providing a resource for teachers to deliver the Recreational Skipper's Ticket theory to students.
