Australian Builders Plate
Introduced on 2 September 2006, the Australian Builders Plate (ABP) is required to be fitted on most new Australian and imported recreational vessels. The plate provides information on a boat capability and capacity when out on the water. It gives you details on boating operations, specifying the maximum number of people and load allowed, engine rating and weight.
Refer to the Safer Boating with an ABP on board brochure in Publications for more details about:
- boats that need a plate,
- level or basic flotation requirements,
- buying a boat,
- types of plates
More information about the national standard can be found on the National Marine Safety Committee (NMSC) website (external link).
Also refer to the Boat Builder's ABP information and ABP samples page.
