From 1 July 2009, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure became the Department of Planning and the Department of Transport. State Land Services and Pastoral Leases became part of the Department of Regional Development and Lands.

The Western Australian State Government legislates for the safe and correct construction, modification and operation of commercial vessels for use in the navigable waters of the State (rivers, lakes, estuaries, territorial waters) and seas adjacent to the State of Western Australia.
