Aviation safety

The Department's aim is to influence Commonwealth aviation authorities to ensure that Western Australians have the highest standards of aviation safety. The regulator of aviation safety and security in Australia is the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

Airservices Australia (ASA) is responsible for providing air traffic services and rescue and fire fighting services to the aviation industry.

Both of Perth's metropolitan airports, Perth International and Jandakot, fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government. The Department liaises with these Commonwealth authorities to manage aircraft operations - including flight paths, circuit procedures and noise issues - at Perth and Jandakot airports.
