Purpose

The State Government encourages the development of aviation training facilities in Western Australia.

China Southern Airlines and Singapore International Airlines have established pilot training operations at Merredin and Jandakot Airports respectively.

Objectives

The Department's objective is to assist in the development of aviation training in Western Australia by working with stakeholders from regional areas. Aviation training includes, but is not limited to pilot and pilot instructor training and aviation engineering training.
Current projects include:

  • Investigating options to install a new Instrument Landing System outside of the metropolitan area that may be used for pilot training purposes without adding to air space congestion at Perth Airport.

  • Contributing $1.8 million from the Regional Airports Development Scheme to develop aviation training at Wyalkatchem.
